December Getaway

Dover Port

Well it’s been a while since we’ve done a big road trip in the Motorhome but we have managed to do a few trips so far for 2022. In March we went over to France and did part of the Normandy Coast, May we spent a few nights in Walton on Thames, June we visited the New Forest with friends then at the end of June we went to Dartmouth, all great places.

However we wanted to end the year and start the New Year doing something a bit different, so why not do a road trip. We have decided to head to Spain for Christmas and New Year on our big December Getaway trip. A little different from spending time with the family at Christmas, we did however managed to see everyone before we left and of course deliver the Christmas cards.

We have booked a site in Spain for Christmas week and we have even booked Christmas dinner, table all booked. But that’s as far as it goes because we normally just wing it on our way down and back, that’s all part of the fun, right.

Once over in France we have our normal go to place which is around 1 hour and 40 minutes from the port in a small village called Conty. They offer free overnight parking for motorhomes in a large area, this is a great place to stop when head down and even back to Calais, here they have water and black/grey waste area (a token is needed for this service). The below picture is off the app we use Park4Night, it’s our go to app for 90% of our stops and has worked well for us.

One thing about touring in a motorhome, is staying in free camping areas. For some I understand its not for you but for us it’s one of the main reasons we brought this motorhome. Everything is onboard, Solar for power, gas, shower, toilet, kitchen and a beautiful rear bedroom. What more do you need and best of all when its freezing outside, we have the heating on full inside and currently a lot cheaper than heating the house.

Tonights little stop over is even more exciting as tucked away in this small village is a free motorhome camping area with fully free services, even the electric is free to use. Now thinking about the climate we are in at home with energy, coming away and finding free sites with all services included is what makes this so good.

Tomorrow we are going to push as far south as we can towards the Spanish border to run away from the ice cold weather that’s coming in. The best bit, we have no idea where night 3 will be.

You can check our site for some past trips also.

Have you wild camped? Do you just prefer campsites? What part of Europe have you done or would love to do. Let us know in the comments. Or if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Happy and safe travels.
